Spring into Action

Spring brought with it a lot of activities across campus this week. Our student organizations are getting into full swing. The engineering students introduced their special 2019 eco-car called “Apawlo” and began loading it up for national competition in California. Our civil engineering students hosted the ASCE Deep South Regionals this week, including steel bridge, concrete canoe and other competitions.
Many prospective students were visiting campus this week. I enjoyed meeting many of them including one student from Michigan with a perfect ACT score who happened to read about our cyber engineering program and decided to take a look at campus. Another visit was with a remarkable young lady with a 32 ACT from my home town Bastrop and who is focused on pre-med. Her commitment to being involved in organizations and activities as well as her strong academic preparation gives me confidence that she will have a highly successful career.
I made a couple of trips to Shreveport/Bossier this week including a ULS Roundtable meeting with our legislative delegation and other leaders. ULS President Jim Henderson and I gave the delegation overviews of our activities, plans and goals for the upcoming legislative session. I also had meetings with our colleagues at the Cyber Innovation Center and USAF Global Strike Command. Those activities are continuing to gain steam and will have significant impacts on our institution and the region in the future.
Hope you enjoy some of my favorite pics for the week:
