Giving thanks for family and friends

Thanksgiving and Quarter break are synonymous at Louisiana Tech. While I had a few things to do in the office and around campus, I took some time this week to be with my family and friends. Chad, Kyle, Bret and their families all came in for Thanksgiving and for the Tech football game. We don’t have enough opportunities to get together. This time was particularly special as we were able to celebrate Kyle and Ginger’s impending birth of their first child, and our fourth grandchild. We can’t wait!
I enjoyed several visitors in the office this week including a father and son who were getting a tour of campus. I had met the father recently when speaking to Shreveport Rotary. We also had some trees planted on campus this week, and I can’t wait to see how all of these look next fall as the beautiful fall colors overtake our campus.
We had a special commencement on Friday for student athletes who had to miss commencement because of the Southern Miss game. I believe that it is important for them to have the opportunity to have an experience that is similar to other graduates, and we hold these special commencements whenever there are conflicts for student athletes. We had a great turnout of family and friends, making this a particularly special day. I thank my staff for taking their Thanksgiving break time to do this.
