Thanks to students for the Big Event

Apr 19, 2014 | Student Feature

Big Event 3Louisiana Tech has a very special student body. That was evident last Saturday morning as over 50 organizations and 1300 students showed up at Joe Aillet Stadium to kick off the Big Event, an event organized by SGA. After brief welcomes and instructions, the student volunteers fanned out in groups and went to approximately 100 homes and sites across the community to provide services to those in need of help. I often hear from people in the community about how grateful they are for the students and the personal interactions with our students certainly lift their spirits. I received the following message from one of my good friends who is associated with a local church.Big Event 1 “I wanted to let you know how much we appreciate the young men of Delta Chi Fraternity for their help during Tech’s Big Event last Saturday. We always schedule our Spring cleanup at the church to coincide with the Big Event, and Delta Chi has been assigned to us for the last several years. This year they sent 20 fraternity brothers, and we were able to get more done than we could have imagined. I can’t say enough good things about these young men. They were courteous, hard-working, and willing to do any task we asked of them – raking, pruning, digging up old plants, polishing woodwork, you name it and they probably did it. And their cheerfulness made the day that much more enjoyable for those of us who worked with them.” Big Event 2I am very proud of our students and I thank them for demonstrating their service leadership in such significant ways. Thanks to Carlton Gray who organized the event, SGA President Allison East, other SGA officers, Division of Student Affairs staff, and the many Tech students who volunteered their time and energy to help others. And thanks to all of our student organizations that support this effort. You truly make this a great institution! Big Event 5 Big Event 4
