Week 19: Tech Students Make Big Decisions, Miss Louisiana Tech 2014
Student activities have been a central theme of my activities this week. On Monday, I met with the Student Technology Fee Committee to review proposals for campus technology investments. Each Fall, we solicit proposals from across campus for investments that need to be made in supporting technology use in various programs. There are always many more excellent proposals than can be funded. However, the student leaders, under the leadership of SGA President Allison East, do an excellent job of reviewing these proposals and making the decisions on how to most wisely spend the money. Their perspectives are very good and I am proud of the leadership shown by the group that met with us on Monday.
Tuesday, I received a very special e-mail from one of my students from the Engineering Mechanics class that I taught last Fall. Evan Sanders had been plotting for some time on how he could make a proposal for marriage to Jenna Joseph, another student from that class. Evan and Jenna are both excellent students and really set the curve for our class. Well, Evan recently made his proposal in a beautiful setting at Lincoln Parish Park. And Jenna said “Yes!” Evan and Jenna, congratulations to you both, and thank you for sharing your joy with all of us.
The Miss Louisiana Tech Pageant took place on Wednesday night and 11 contestants competed. The Union Board did an excellent job of organizing and running the program. The contestants were outstanding and demonstrated a lot of poise and talent. I know that the judges had a difficult task in selecting a winner. Congratulations to all of the contestants, and particularly Meagan Lee, a Senior from Delhi majoring in English and minoring in Journalism, who was crowned Miss Louisiana Tech 2014. I thank Julianne Tippen, Miss Louisiana Tech 2013, for all of her work in promoting our university over the last year. She did an outstanding job, and I know will continue to be successful in her pursuits in life.
